Adv Booi studied BJuris from 1980 to 1983 and from 1984 to 1987 she was employed as a Magistrate. During 1988 and 1989, she obtained her LLB degree and thereafter was employed as a State Law Adviser drafting legislation and legal opinions for the Transkei Government and later for the Department of Justice. In 1996 she took up office as a State Law Adviser in Pretoria where she gave legal advice and drafted legislation and National and International Agreements for all State Departments. During 1997 and 1998 she was employed in Cape Town where she drafted legislation for the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa.
In 2003, Adv Booi established Phakamani Legal Advisory and Legislative Drafting Services, a consultancy that drafted legislation, regulations, by-laws, contracts, legal opinions and all legal instruments, for National, Provincial and Local Government.
She also held the position of Commissioner of the Land Claims Department of Rural Development in the North-West province.
From 2014 to 2018, she acted as the CEO of Hala Community Advisory Organisation, and NGO that provides advice and solutions on legal problems, assists with education and access to justice, assists with awareness, education and prevention of human rights abuses to members of the community and gender based violence. During this time in 2015 she was also the Chairperson for the Mbhashe Municipality’s Planning Tribunal and did Advocacy Training in 2018. During 2019 she acted as the Commissioner for ADR Network South Africa.
